Ely area fishing has been hot lately! Packsack anglers, and fisherman from across the area have been having no problem catching dinner and then some.
The walleye bite has been strong across all of Basswood lake, anglers have been finding walleyes in about 20 ft. of water using a crawler harness. One of Packsack’s paddlers returned with the report that while fishing the Basswood River, they were “catching fish on every cast”. It has not been quite as easy on Fall Lake, but Packsack guests have still been able to bring home some golden fillets.
Packsack fisherman targeting northern pike, have had luck trolling large spinners, and using slip bobber set ups with large sucker minnows.
I like big bass and I cannot lie! Largemouth and smallmouth bass have been smashing top water and live bait. Anglers have caught and released several fish worthy of mounting, and many smaller sized fish as well.
The dog days of summer are here, but they have certainly not dogged the fishing here in the Ely area!
