A Boundary Waters Legacy Dating Back Before the Wilderness Act
Before the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness was formally protected under the Wilderness Act of 1964, our original log cabins were located along Pipestone Falls within what is now designated wilderness. When the Boundary Waters was preserved to protect its natural character, our cabins were carefully relocated to their current home on Fall Lake near Ely.
Today, that legacy lives on. While our cabins now sit just outside the wilderness boundary, our roots remain deeply connected to the Boundary Waters. Few Ely-area resorts can trace their history so closely to the early days of canoe travel, fishing, and family-run lodging in the Northwoods.
Preserving the Northwoods While Carrying On the Tradition
Our relocation reflects the same values that continue to guide us today: respect for the wilderness, stewardship of the land, and a commitment to helping guests experience the Boundary Waters responsibly. Staying with us means being part of a long tradition that began well before modern permits, entry points, and regulations existed.
